To study their network dynamics, we are developing nanometer scale wearable social sensors for proteins. These wearables devices are designed to visualize when and where a given protein comes within an arms reach from its partners. Using this, we started watching proteins socialize with one another within living animals. Note: These wearables do not care what clothes the proteins might be wearing that day (think phosphorylation and other posttranslational modifications) and also cannot tell whether they happen to be accompanied by any friends or not (consider possibilities of complexing with many other proteins in flux).
